Empowering a child to purse their his dream.
As a former development worker and project manager, I have long been aware of the excellent work of Ransel Buku, including its inspirational Founder/Manager, Aini Abdul and longtime supporter, David Metcalf.
This is a truly creative grassroots initiative which achieves great things on a shoestring – in part because the communities themselves participate in identifying the issues and strategies, as well as in strategy implementation.

Ransel Buku is a fantastic example of two young Dayak teachers determined to provide children in a remote village in Central Kalimantan good quality teaching and a chance for them to achieve their dreams.
Aini and Fery have worked with the local community and built this program from the grassroots overcoming many obstacles to offer hope and a future of possibilities for the children and parents.
I am in awe of what they have achieved.

This grass roots programme has inspired a passion for reading in these young children. The collaboration with the Green School and Pelangi School in Bali has brought a new teaching philosophy to this little riverside village and created innovative environmental models for change. Win-win!
